The 2021 season ended on a very controversial note. It has taken nearly the entire offseason to untangle the mess it had generated. The Abu Dhabi debacle also called for more stringent and to-the-point rules when it comes to the track. McLaren driver, Lando Norris, also calls for the same, looking for more straightforward rules and fewer grey areas.
Lando Norris on track manners
The driving style of Max Verstappen has previously been described as overly aggressive. Norris said “He’s a different kind of driver”, commenting on the Dutchman’s driving style. The Britton spoke about Verstappen’s aggressive driving style in the latter part of the season.
Norris asked for more consistency when it came to on-track action being officiated by the stewards. He also emphasized there is lesser room for debate when it came to the rules. Lando said, “There is a great demand for clarity,”
The fans all agree as well because there is a great need to avoid any controversy like the 2021 season finale in the future.
McLaren’s 2022 struggles
The Woking outfit made a bright start to the 2022 season in the Barcelona pretesting but has lately run into problems. They have faced machinery trouble as well as driver issues. McLaren had some braking issues during Bahrain testing, which cut short their running time on track. Driver Daniel Ricciardo also contacted Covid on the second day of testing but is back in time for the season opener.
The first qualifying of the season has already shown that the team is off the pace with both of their drivers not making it past Q2. Lando Norris managed p13 while Ricciardo was only 17th fastest.
