Davante Adams and his desire to join the Las Vegas Raiders have surprised fans. The Green Bay Packers could not save one of the greatest players in their illustrious heritage. Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target is now heading to the Las Vegas Raiders only days after the quarterback inked his blockbuster contract deal to return. Now that Davante Adams isn’t returning to the fold. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst has now spoken out on the receiver’s shift from the team.
The blockbuster trade meets up Adams with Derek Carr, the quarterback at Fresno State before they both entered the NFL in 2014, and provides quarterback Carr with a No. 1 target during his peak.
Green Bay appeared to be one signing away from pulling off the best conceivable situation. The Packers didn’t want him to leave, and they have used the franchise tag over Adams as well. However, this didn’t stop the athlete from making his destiny.
GM Gutekunst tones in the trade of Davante Adams
According to Ian Rapoport, Davante Adams has agreed to a five-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders at $28.5 million each season, with $67.5 million completely guaranteed. In this year’s draft, the Raiders handed the Packers their first-round pick (No. 22 overall) and a second-round pick (No. 53). The Packers now have four picks in the top 60, including Nos. 28 and 59.
After the trade, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst makes a public statement over social media, voicing his opinion as he calls Adams a Green Bay Hall of Fame worthy, and one of the greatest players of their illustrious history.
He mentions in a statement, “It’s never easy moving on from a player and person the caliber of Davante Adams. We have so much respect for all that Davante gave on and off the field during his eight seasons in Green Bay, as he was integral to all that we’ve accomplished…”

He also mentions that Adams is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in the storied history of the Packers. The Green Bay front may look forward to him being inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame one day. GM Brian wishes luck to the athlete, his wife, and the rest of his family.
Moreover, Adams’ transfer to the Raiders calls for an end to the Packers’ most prolific quarterback-receiver combination in the league’s history.
Do Green Bay Packers need a veteran receiver?
Green Bay’s offense is now significantly weakened as a result of his departure. The Packers already have their MVP quarterback, but they need to find out who should receive Rodgers’ tosses. Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, and Malik Taylor are the Packers’ leading receivers on the active roster at present.
However, they also have sufficient cap space and draft capital to build up the position. The Gren Bay Packers are now relieved of the $20.14 million salary-cap hit thanks to the Adams deal. The franchise may be open to bringing in free agents or looking at trade possibilities in the future.
