India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe the Birbhum killings in West Bengal. For this, the CBI will form a team with their experienced officers and will start the investigation tomorrow, Saturday. The 21 people arrested in this case will have to be handed over to the CBI.
A division bench of the Calcutta High Court comprising Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj passed the order on Friday.
At least 10 people have been killed in violence in West Bengal's Birbhum since the killing of Bhadu Sheikh, deputy chief of Rampurhat sub-division and Trinamool leader on Monday. Many people fled the village.
A day after the incident, a self-motivated case was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday over the Birbhum murder.
Announcing the verdict today, the division bench said the CBI was tasked with investigating the case to restore public confidence in the judiciary. State police will not investigate the murder case. To that end, all the documents of the murder case have to be handed over to the CBI. The CBI will start investigation into the Birbhum genocide case from Saturday. The 21 arrested in this case will also have to be handed over to the CBI.
Meanwhile, relief has returned to the families of those killed in the massacre as the investigation into the genocide case has been handed over to the CBI. According to them, justice is not available with the police in this state. This time justice can be expected.
The Congress and the CPM have expressed satisfaction that the High Court has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. However, following the High Court order, Trinamool state secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "We will always co-operate in the CBI investigation." However, if the CBI tries to save the BJP in the investigation, the Trinamool will protest if it pursues a policy of revenge. If necessary, there will be mass movement.
Yesterday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the spot and offered condolences to the families of the victims. He also promised to give appropriate punishment to the culprits. Not only that, he assured that those police officers who are negligent in their duties will also be brought to justice. Provides financial assistance to victims. Meanwhile, Rampurhat sub-divisional police officer, IC of Rampurhat police station and OC have been sacked.
Rampurhat Block Trinamool Congress president Anwarul Hossain has been arrested in connection with the incident. 21 people were arrested in this genocide case. When Anwarul was taken to Rampurhat Sub-Divisional Judicial Court today, the court remanded him in police custody for 14 days.
