‘It’s a Lot to Take In’ – Iga Swiatek Talks About Being No.1 as She Prepares for Clay Season

The current World No.1, Iga Swiatek is enjoying a tremendous run so far this season. After winning the Miami Open, she became the new World No.1 following Ashleigh Barty’s retirement. In the process, she also became the first woman to win three back-to-back Masters 1000 tournaments and the fourth woman to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’. Meanwhile, after winning the Miami Open, she decided to skip Charleston open owing to a harmless arm injury. Instead, she used this time away from the court to unwind herself. In a recent post on Instagram, she provided a glimpse of enjoying her time in Miami.

In the caption, she wrote, “So, here we are… One day I’m just 100% focused on my performance during another match and the next day I’m realizing how to live as number 1. It’s a lot to take in and I’m working through it day by day at my own pace. It will take some time but on the other hand I’m very excited. These last few weeks were… interesting, crazy and hard-core but I’m happy that I was also able to have some quality time in Miami after the final. Now it’s time to get back to work.”

According to her, she will be back soon after spending some quality time in Miami. The Madrid Open could be her next possible tournament.

Iga is aiming for her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros

On her current form, the Polish player should be one of the string favorites to win French Open this year. Previously, she won the title in 2020 by beating Sofia Kenin in the final. Incredibly, she won the whole tournament without dropping a single set, displaying her dominance on the red clay.

Swiatek relishes playing on clay and also won the Rome Masters title last year. Currently, Swiatek is on a 17-match winning streak, winning back-to-back in Doha, Indian Wells, and Miami. The way she is playing at the moment, it will take a marvelous effort to stop her.

Can Swiatek win the French Open for the second time in her career? Let us know in the comments.
