April is the warmest April in 122 years in northwestern and central India

 


The month of April has been termed as the warmest April in 122 years in various parts of northwestern and central India. The average temperature this month ranged from 35.9 degrees Celsius to 36.6 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department said this on Saturday. News from NDTV.


 At a press conference yesterday, Mrityunjay Mohapatra, director general of the Indian Meteorological Department, said temperatures in northwestern and western central Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana would remain above normal in May. With the exception of a few areas on the southern peninsula, most parts of the country will experience warmer nights in May than during the day. He added that the average temperature across India in April this year was 35.05 degrees Celsius. This is the fourth highest temperature in 122 years.


According to Mohapatra, the average rainfall in May 2022 is likely to be higher than normal.


March and April have seen low rainfall due to high temperatures. In March, northwestern India experienced a 69 per cent deficit in rainfall. The deficit in April was about 63 percent.


Intense heat waves have been raging for weeks in India, especially in the western and north-western parts of the country.
