While the NBA sure captures many eyes, college basketball is not far off. The main spectacle of college basketball is the March Madness. The top 68 teams in the USA compete in a single-elimination tournament to see who is truly the best. Mostly, some crazy buzzer-beaters and sequences make headlines. However, in the matchup between Indiana and Saint Mary’s, the cheerleader had the crowd going nuts.
March Madness is one of the most defining tournaments in basketball. The NCAA tournament separates the best of the lot. It allows players to shine through and send loud praises of their names to the world. The tournament has given to many NBA players such as Kemba Walker who hit an infamous step-back shot to beat the buzzer. In addition, there have been other crazy moments in the college competition. It lives up to the competitive element of basketball, as all college teams look to be the best.
However, sometimes the attention takes a shift. In the recent first-round matchup of March Madness, the cheerleader got all eyes as she retrieved the ball from atop the backboard.
March Madness is already racking up the highlights
During the first-round game between Saint Mary’s and Indiana, the ball got stuck at the top of the backboard. The referees tried several times to remove it with a broom. However, their efforts came to no avail. Hence, in the time of trouble, an unlikely hero stepped up. The cheerleading squad did their part and hoisted a cheerleader up. She then easily retrieved the ball and the entire crowd went nuts. It also left not only the crowd but fans on Twitter, shell-shocked.

It almost compared to the time Boban Marjanovic came in to save the day for the Mavericks. The entire arena gave the cheerleader’s efforts a nod in a loud moment. While the tournament has a long way to go, only the Saint Mary’s will see the next round after their win over the Hoosiers.

Indiana had no answer on either side of the floor. Their offense could rack up only 53 points in the loss as big names didn’t deliver. Their leading scorer, Jackson-Davis, scored just 10 points in the loss. That comes short of his season average of 18 points per game. Johnson also tallied 11 points. No other Hoosier players crossed double digits as they took a blowout loss in the first round against the Sait Mary’s Gaels.
The Gaels were at their best as Logan Johnson led the way for them. He racked up 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in the stellar win. Four of their starters crossed the 10 point threshold and saw themselves get the win. Tommy Kuhse came in huge as well amassing 19 points and 6 assists in the 82-53 win.
With only the first round in the books, who do you think is winning it all this season? Let us know in the comments below.
